Standard Accuracy Positioning Solution
Using Enhanced GMLC node deployed in core networks and no SMLC nodes in the access network it delivers position estimates with standard accuracy based on cell id and antenna sector

Enhanced Accuracy Positioning Solution
Following 3GPP specifications, this solution comprises GMLC node in the core network and SMLC nodes in the access networks. It implements Cell ID + TA/RTT, Enhanced Cell ID (E-CID) and Assisted GPS/GNSS positioning methods, delivering enhanced accuracy positioning

Mass Positioning
Solution
The solution delivers the identities of the subscribers in a given area comrising a cell or multiple cells. It also contains a geofencing module that can trigger events when subscribers in provisioned lists enter or leave a given area

Applicata Positioning Solutions provide the best combination of positioning accuracy, costs, network dependency and time to market.
It covers scenarios for both commercial location based services and lawfull enforcement

Overview of Positioning Solutions

  • Cell Global ID Positioning Function (CGP)
    • Does not require SMLC in the access network
    • Is used with Applicata Standard Accuracy Solution delivering cell id and antenna sector as a location estimation
    • Does not require additional features in the network and can be easily integrated in any GSM, UMTS and LTE network
    • Supports home subscribers, outbound- and inbound roamers
  • Generic Network Positioning Function (GNP)
    • Follows 3GPP specificatons
    • Requires SMLC nodes in the access network and specific features and interfaces in the network
    • Is used with Applicata Enhanced Accuracy Solution
  • Mass Positioning Function
    • Retrieves and stores information about the subscribers’ presence and/or activity in an area
    • Supports triggers on selected location related events, e.g., subscribers entering/leaving the area (Geofencing)

Middleware

  • Standard Accuracy Positioning solution does not require any additional features in the network and can be installed in GSM/UMTS and EPC core networks in minutes. It supports positioning for home subscribers, outbound roamers and inbound roamers
  • Enhanced Accuracy Positioning solution follows 3GPP reference architecture for location based services. Accordingly, it uses nodes (SMLC, Serving Mobile Location Centre nodes) that reside in GERAN (2G), UTRAN (3G) and E-UTRAN (4G) access networks
  • SMLC nodes have access to data that are not available in the core network. FortWing SMLC nodes implement multiple positioning methods - Cell ID + TA/RTT, Enhanced Cell ID (E-CID) and Assisted GPS/GNSS that deliver positions with enhanced accuracy. Adding aditional positioning methods also possible if the corresponding network prerequisities exist.
  • Mass Positioning solution delivers the initially unknown identities (MSISDNs, IMSIs) of subscribers that are attached in a known area (cell, or list of cells). It also supports geo-fencing function that triggers events when a subscriber in a given list of subscribers enters or leaves an area (cell of group of cells)
  • Standard Accuracy, Enhanced Accuracy and Mass Positioning solutions come with documented API for client side software

Client Side Software

  • FortWing Positioning Middleware comes with documented interface allowing custom implementaton of client side software
  • Applicata has also powerful Client Side Software implementation for lawful enforcement scenarios
    It covers the interface with the Positioning Middleware and also supports advanced features, including:
